Clermont secured their place in the top flight of French football after clinching a crucial victory over Nantes on Sunday.
The result means that the club will avoid relegation from Ligue 1 for another season, with just two games remaining this season.
The win was all the more impressive given that Clermont had been struggling in recent weeks, having lost four of their last five matches.
However, they bounced back with a resounding 2-0 victory over Nantes at Stade de la Beaujoire, thanks to goals from Jonathan Bamba and Anthony Lopes.
With their victory, Clermont moved up to fifth place in the table, six points clear of the bottom three teams.
Manager Jean-Louis Gasset praised his team's performance, saying: "We knew it would be tough against Nantes, but we managed to get the job done."
He added: "It's a big step forward for us, and I'm really happy for the players."
The win also means that Clermont have now won each of their last four league matches, and Gasset is confident that his side can continue their winning run into the final few matches of the season.
"We're not going to rest on our laurels," he said. "We still have a lot to do, and we'll keep pushing forward."
For Nantes, it was a disappointing end to what had been a promising campaign. The team finished the season in seventh place, but were unable to secure a place in Europe next season due to their poor form in the latter stages of the season.
Manager Christophe Galtier admitted defeat, saying: "It's always difficult when you lose a game like that, especially against a team as good as Clermont.
"I'm proud of my players, though, because they've worked hard all season and deserved better than today."
